
The Ultra is a dedicated UV press and offers unique features to optimize the benefits of UV technology.

The ink cassette, consisting of an ink resevoir, anilox roll, and doctor blade, is light weight and easily handled by one person. When it's time to change jobs ink cartridges simply slide in and out of position. It's so easy that a complete six color job can be changed over in under 10 minutes.
UV inks are stable so cassettes can be left inked up with no danger of damaging anilox rolls. All clean up is done off line.
Because we can eliminate the long drying path needed to dry conventional inks, we have been able to reduce the amount of material needed to web a six color press to under sixty feet. Less material in the press improves tension control, reduces waste and facilitates web handling of a wide range of materials, including heavy boardstocks.


Optional system features complete die modules that slide in and out of position to reduce set up times to an absolute minimum. Set up and proofing is done off line, significantly reducing down time aligning male/female die sets. Die modules slide on and off of rolling carts and are quickly and easily changed by a single operator.
Optional portable rotary screen modules and die station modules mount in any print station and move between stations. This platform press capability gives you the ultimate in flexibility for combination printing.

UNWIND
Roll Lift - Maximum roll capacity is:
10.25 inches wide weighing 545 pounds for the 1000 press
13.25 inches wide weighing 704 pounds for the 1300 press
18.25 inches wide weighing 957 pounds for the 1800 press.
- Maximum roll diameter is 40 inches.
- Three inch diameter air expanded coreholder, with inflator included.
Roll End Detector - the follower arm is easily adjusted to minimize waste when using cores of different thickness.
Unwind Dancer - regulates the roll tension brake and smoothes out tension variation caused by an out-of-round roll.
Splice Table - pneumatic clamps and a cutting surface with a built-in straight edge and adhesive tape roll holder facilitates accurate and fast splicing.
Unwind Tension System - a high friction roller connected to a magnetic brake creates web tension. A transducer roll located downstream from the unwind tension drum measures the amount of web tension, feeding that information to the tension control, which in turn controls the magnetic brake. The tension control features convenient setting buttons and numeric display of set point and running tension.
Edge Guide - an electronic edge guide precisely controls the web position.
Web Cleaner and Static Eliminator - a two-side web cleaner and static eliminator remove dust and loose fibers from the web prior to the first print station.
PRINTING
- Maximum printing width is 10 inches for the 1000 press
13 inches for the 1300 press
18 inches for the 1800.
- Plate cylinder circumferences range from 8 to 24 inches.
- Drying is by 400 watt-per-inch UV lamps with automatic variable power
- Lineal (web direction) running registration adjustment is motorized 360° from print tower and
delivery-end control panel.
- Lateral (across the web) running registration adjustment is 3/8 inch.
- Two quick change cartridge inkers with ceramic anilox roll are provided for each pri nt station.
- Short web path and shallow wrap on idlers is ideal for heavy board stock.
- The inking system can be skewed to achieve perfect alignment to the printing plate, to compensate
for any inconsistencies in plate or stickyback material thickness.
- Large diameter impression rolls are hardened precision ground tool steel treated for corrosion resistance.
CONVERTING
Die Stations
Three diecutting stations are standard:
- Maximum die circumference is 24".
- Minimum die circumference capability is 6.5" for top side diecutting and 8" for bottom side diecutting. Consult your die manufacturer for the minimum die size recommended for each diecutting application.
- Manual 3/8" lineal registration adjustment.
- Removable through-hardened precision ground tool steel base rolls in each station.
- Lower base rolls provide support and stability for the removable base rolls.
- Die pressure hardware is quickly and easily removed and installed to expedite die change.
- Bearer and bearing oil wipers.
- Steel die frames.Waste Matrix Rewind
- Single 24" rewind capacity for the 1000 and 1300; 30" rewind capacity for the 1800.
- 3" pneumatic coreholder with inflate/deflate switch on the control panel.
Slitting & Pull Roll
- Three laterally adjustable air operated slitters, with a through hardened and ground tool steel base roll.
- Pneumatic adjustment for pull roll pressure (18" only).
- Pull roll can be removed for cleaning.
Sheeting
One diecutting station is provided.

UNWIND
Corona treater - Elevates surface energy of film materials to improve ink adhesion.
Larger diameter roll capacity - 50", 60" and 72" roll stands with integral hoists or automatic roll splicers up to 72" diameter.
Multiple unwinds - For multiple web products.
PRINTING
Automatic registration control system - An electronic system monitors and controls printing registration.
Additional ink cartridge - Additional anilox rolls with other cell counts and volumes may be specified.
Diecutter - A diecutting module with up to three diecutting stations can be located between any press modules.
Reverse print kit - Printing on the bottom side of the web can be done without the use of a turn bar.
Rotary screen head - Rotary screen printing with UV inks.
Turn bar - Used to turn a web upside-down; compressed air required.
Varnish or blister coating station - A station for water-based and/or UV varnishes and blister coating with appropriate drying equipment.DIECUTTING
Additional waste rewind - Add a second 30" diameter waste rewind for piggyback material stripping or for laminating release film rewinding.
Carton Kit - For male/female cutting and creasing tools up to 24 inch circumference, we offer an extra heavy die station with motorized 360 degree circumferential register, and an innovative pull roll with an adjustable height to line up the web with the center line of the die pair.
Dual waste rewind - provides two waste rewind shafts for double waste stripping or for winding laminating liner and waste matrix. Maximum rewind diameter is 24 inches.
Hot foil stamping system - Add a foil unwind and rewind system, DMS hot foil stamping unit and custom engraved stamping dies.
Lamination unwind - Pneumatic-controlled brake on cantilevered shaft unrolls the laminating film. Laminating film with release liner requires a waste matrix rewind stand to rewind the liner.
Lateral die adjust - Provides 3/8" side-to-side running adjustment of the die for alignment to the printed web.
Linehole punching - A punching module can be added.
Motorized 360° registration - Web direction register change can be made from the main control panel using push buttons.
Narrow die adapter - Adapters for narrower dies and for dies of other press designs.
24" Die Adapter - Required for the 1000 and 1300 press for dies from 21-1/8" to 24" repeat.
Quick change die module - A self-contained die module with base roll and die loading hardware which is easily rolled out toward the aisle to a transport cart. With two cassettes and carts, die setup time can be performed off-line with a considerable reduction in press downtime for die change.
Shear cut slitting - Replaces the standard crush cut slitters.
Waste break detector - Optical sensor monitors the waste matrix and stops the press if the matrix breaks.DELIVERY
Flatbed diecutter - An inline diecutting system utilizing flatbed dies.
Rewind with roll unloader - A pneumatic lift system unloads the rewind roll.
Second cantilever rewind shaft - Add a second shaft with 40" rewind capacity.
Stacker - Two models are available; a conveyor for forms and labels and a denesting stacker to separate nested diecut cartons.
Tension control - Upgrade the rewind drive to automatic taper tension control.
Batch counter - Counts and separates batches of product.
Waste chopper for board stock - For easier disposal of carton diecut matrix, a chopper will cut the matrix into more easily handled lengths.ACCESSORIES
Strobe light - Strobe lighting provides web viewing at production speed - commonly used to check printing registration targets.
Video plate mounter - Plate mounter with video cameras to magnify alignment marks 20 times for high mounting accuracy.
Web break detectors - Optical sensors monitor the web at several points throughout the press. A display panel identifies the location of the web break in multiple web break sensor installations.
Video web viewing system - Video camera-based system with high quality monitor for web inspection at production speed. Used for checking print quality and registration.
